Back To a Great Start

April 25, 2008

It’s been a while since I did anything on youtube, so much so that people had been asking if I was ever coming back at all. But I’m back, and with my first video back (on my channel – not to discount Tigger) Bam – I’m featured (on People & Blogs) yippie!

And for anyone who hasn’t caught on yet, yes I’ve also recently been accepted as in to the Youtube Partner program (not that I think much will come from it, but who knows).

Check out the featured Truth or Dare Tag Game video as well as the first Response from Littlepandaexpress (below) with her Results from being tagged (more…)

Sketchies 2

March 2, 2008

Production Banner

Thursday we cast the last of our characters and this morning we shot. 3 pages of material. Not an over bearable shot list for a one day shoot. We managed to pull it off in about 3 hours. The boys are back at their place editing their little hearts out (I hope) and by Monday we’ll have this little bastard online.

There will be an extended version, but for the Sketchies contest we’re whittling down the the vision to under 3 minutes.

Here’s Sketchies 2 behind the Scenes:

I have to say I’m apprehensive. Brian is off editing right now, and I’m almost scared to see what comes of it. This time I kind of focussed on just acting and some production aspects. Brian wrote and directed this, with a few notes from me. I meant to be a little more producerly, but also I just wanted to get it done and we kept the shoot moving right along. So I had no complaints.

The day basically went off without a hitch. The one large exception being the weather. we expected the sun to come out, and held off shooting till 10 when we gave up and just hoped everything stayed consistent. Which it did. But I fear this means everything will be too dark.

Either way I think this short is going to be pretty awesome, even beyond being part of sketchies. It should catch some fans I think. And we’re going to cut a longer version eventually, since Sketchies maxes out at 3 minutes. So keep an eye on my youtube channel SamProof cause ‘The Wild Thing’ will be up Monday.

Celebrating Art & Writing on Youtube

February 29, 2008

Welcome to the First Real Youtube Art & Writing Contest

From the Press Release:
There remains no category on YouTube for art and literature. Which isn’t to say writers and artists aren’t taking advantage of the site. One artist, who goes by the handle ValsArtDiary, records her weekly process of making a painting, puts the video on YouTube, and within hours of posting has bids for her work Ebay. Take that Picasso!

To prove to the YouTube brain trust that there is a demand for good writing and fine art, Jaffe is launching a literature-and-arts contest dubbed “TubeArts”. Sponsors Carmun.com, a social networking site geared to help students write academic papers, and FracturedAtlas.org, a non-profit that helps provide artists with important services like healthcare, are each contributing $600 in prize money. Additionally, Fracture Atlas has offered all artists who participate in the contest a free one-year membership to their site.

The contest video can be seen at youtube.com/jackdanyells , Jaffe’s YouTube channel. And the contest judges are all YouTubers with outstanding credentials.

It’s Cold in LA

January 21, 2008

spslosangelesbanner.jpg

The three headsThis was the weekend from hell and back. It was amazing, it was draining, it was a god damn memory bitch!

I’m not about to try and account for everything that happened, at least not right now. Maybe. This weekend was the gathering. This weekend was chance I had to do something amazing for work. This week I got to meet my friends. It’s such an odd feeling, knowing these face these personalities you see on screen all the time, on youtube, on stickam, where ever. I can almost understand how people think the characters on TV are real people. almost.

You meet up with these people you’ve never really know and you find out, yea you have. You’ve always know this person. you’ve always had a place in your heart fof them, you just didn’t know who filled the gap.

So this in short was the 2nd annual LA gathering. I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I expected something a bit smaller, a bit more hectic, a bit more “who are you, who are you, who are you!” But all in all it was just the right size. I got time to talk to people I’d never heard of before. I got to meet old acquaintances and new friends, and often a combination of the two.

This morning I got a hundred messages from people that had made it home safely (thank god). Almost all the kiddies are back in their safe little beds tucked away. It’s a holiday, but I’m at work. making up for lost time, waiting for opportunity. It’s cold in LA, gray, it knows what’s been and gone. Thank God San Fran is only a month away.

more to come.

Right after work I met up with the gang, LittlepandaExpress, Mollyz2000, Chelsea and Tim. We hung at the cafe, drank coffee, there where expensive sanwhiches (yay you’re in LA grilled cheese 8 dolla’), giggles, gaufaws and awkward silences. good times. Then we headed back to my place and slipped in to something more comfortable. Oh wait I mean hung out till Tony came home, said a few words and fell asleep on his couch while we waited for SarahB to show up. We stayed up way too long, and I got about 4 hours of sleep. But oddly I’m completely awake, right now. I expect this to pass soon and I’ll fall in to some kind of waking comma. Can’t to see everyone tonight, there will be even more peeps. Eek.
